Volunteer Programs
AmeriCorps Seniors
AmeriCorps Seniors is a network of volunteer programs for Americans aged 55 and older offering opportunities for seniors to serve their communities in various ways, such as mentoring students, providing companionship to other seniors, assisting with disaster relief, and more. The program includes initiatives like the Foster Grandparent Program, RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program), and the Senior Companion Program, each designed to match volunteers with meaningful service opportunities
Foster Grandparent Program (FGP)
Interested in making a difference? The Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) offers rewarding part-time volunteer opportunities for individuals aged 55+ with limited incomes. As a foster grandparent, you’ll provide personalized support to children with special or exceptional needs. Participants receive stipends to assist with their volunteer contributions, enabling you to help shape young lives while receiving support for your service.
Senior Companion Program (SCP)
Interested in applying? The Senior Companion Program (SCP) offers part-time community service roles for individuals aged 55+ with limited incomes. As a volunteer, you’ll provide essential one-to-one support, helping older adults maintain their independence in their own homes.
Care Companion Program (CCP)
The Care Companion Program provides volunteer opportunities for individuals aged 18 and older to offer companionship and support to residents in assisted living facilities and other care settings. Volunteers engage in meaningful interactions, helping seniors combat loneliness and maintain emotional well-being. They may assist with social activities, provide conversation and friendship, or help with non-medical daily living tasks. The Care Companion Program expands its reach to facility-based care, ensuring residents receive regular visits and social connection.
Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)
Interested in making a meaningful impact? The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) invites individuals aged 55 and older to utilize their talents, experiences, and skills in volunteer opportunities that address vital community needs. Join RSVP and share your hobbies and expertise with community projects and organizations that thrive on volunteer contributions.
Key Differences
The key differences are the age requirement, service settings and stipends. The Care Companion Program (CCP) is open to younger volunteers (18+), whereas all AmeriCorps Seniors programs require volunteers to be at least 55. Additionally, CCP focuses on companionship for seniors in assisted living facilities, whereas SCP serves seniors living independently. FGP, SCP and CCP offer stipends for income eligible volunteers. Income eligibility is set at 200% of the federal poverty guidelines. RSVP does not offer stipends but may provide accident, personal liability and excess automobile insurance.
