New conference dates will be October 19-21
SANTA FE – The New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department (ALTSD) has postponed the 48th Annual New Mexico Conference on Aging scheduled for September 23-24 in Glorieta due to forecasts of severe flooding.
The National Weather Service is forecasting a significant surge of monsoon moisture beginning Tuesday, with widespread heavy rainfall and an increased potential for life-threatening flash flooding.
“Bringing New Mexicans together to learn, connect and celebrate is incredibly important, but safety has to come first,” said Emily Kaltenbach, Aging Department secretary. “This was not an easy decision, especially given the tremendous amount of effort that has gone into preparing for this years’ conference. We look forward to gathering in October when we can do so safely.”
The decision to postpone was made out of an abundance of caution and concern for the health and safety of everyone involved. Close to 2,000 people registered for the conference, themed “Caring Across Generations.” The conference programming will highlight the many ways New Mexicans support each other—caring for aging parents, grandparents raising grandchildren, supporting neighbors and helping older adults remain active and connected to their communities.
The conference will be rescheduled for October 19-21, 2026. Attendees and participants are encouraged to monitor the ALTSD website and social media channels for updates. Questions may also be directed to the Aging and Disability Resource Center at 800-432-2080.
